Environment

Tate & Lyle Sugars is fully committed to reducing the impact our business has on the environment in which we operate.

Our waste management programme ensures that we routinely record zero waste to landfill as we have recycling or reuse programmes for all our major waste streams. Information regarding the recycling of packaging materials can be found on pack.
In recent years, EU restrictions on access to raw sugar supplies have reduced our ability to run the London refinery continuously. Consequently, Thames Refinery has been running just five days per week. Whilst starting and stopping a refinery is not the optimal model for energy consumption, it is more efficient than running a plant slowly on a continual basis.

The raw sugar is transported in large vessels from the sugar cane growing regions of the world which are then unloaded at our own dock on the River Thames and conveyed directly to our storage sheds. The finished products may be loaded directly back onto vessels for export or distributed around the UK by rail or road.
