Fairtrade

Tate & Lyle Sugars is proud to support the Fairtrade initiative. In order to ensure that the Fairtrade premium is supporting our growers in the best possible way, a member of our team is dedicated to our relationship with Fairtrade, helping over 20,000 farming families in the developing world. More information on the Fairtrade Foundation can be found at www.fairtrade.org.uk.

We procure a significant proportion of our raw cane sugar from suppliers with whom we have long term agreements. In order to support these suppliers, Tate & Lyle Sugars has invested in a team of hands-on advisors who work in the mills in supplying countries to provide advice on best practice. In addition, we help the local farmers by providing information on cane planting, land preparation, variety selection and when to harvest in what are called 'out-grower schemes'.

Many of our suppliers are in former British Commonwealth countries. These countries have access to the EU market under either the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) or the Everything But Arms (EBA) Initiative, and the sustainability of sugar cane cultivation and raw sugar production is critical to their economy and infrastructure.
